Benny Young's Scrooge meets one of Gavin Glover's puppets in the NTS's 'A Christmas Carol'
The shortlists for the annual Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland have been announced. The notable front runner is the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS), which has 12 nominations across the awards’ 10 categories.The most nominated production is Dundee Rep’s acclaimed staging of Zinnie Harris’s powerful tragedy Further Than the Furthest Thing, with five nominations, closely followed by the NTS’s presentation of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, which has four nominations.
The first two shows by Dominic Hill – new artistic director of the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow – have garnered five nominations between them; with his production of Pinter’s Betrayal being nominated for Best Director and Best Design, and his King Lear put forward in the categories of Best Ensemble, Best Music and Sound, and Best Production.
