Speaking after the 2012 National Dance Awards, held on 28 January 2013, at the Place London, Royal Ballet Principal, Marianela Nunez - who made her debut in John Cranko's Onegin as Tatiana, two days' earlier, said "thank you to everyone who helped me to make this dream come true and for all my friends and family to share this special moment with me".   

Marianela's mother and nephew were able to be present to see her win the award.

She becomes the third woman to win the Best Female Dancer Award for the second time, following Natalia Osipova and Leanne Benjamin.  Marianela previously won the award in 2005.
